Battery back-up system for power cuts

Challenge: Frequent Power Cuts

This was a nice job! We recently installed this battery back-up system to provide electricity to a customer's house during regular power cuts in a small village in West Sussex.

We were contacted by the owner's son as he was worried about his elderly mum during the power cuts which she found very stressful.

Solution: Install a Back-up Battery

To overcome this issue we fitted a 5.4kwh battery with a 5kw inverter and an automatic change over switch. This will detect a loss of power from the grid and switch the whole house over to being powered by the battery in under half a second. So fast the modem won't even cut out!

This battery can power the whole property (except for the oven and tumble dryer which we moved to a separate consumer unit that won't be backed up due to the fact the high loads would drain the battery quickly) or between 6-10 hours which is much longer than the power cuts usually last.

We found out that there was actually a power cut within a week of us installing it. She was very happy to be the only house around unaffected!
